Role Purpose
- Assist community members to acquire and maintain safe and secure accommodation
- Assessing housing
- Organize emergency
- Refer clients for emergency financial assistance as
- Negotiate and establish tenancy
- Provide advocacy and support community members obtaining accommodation/tenancies.
- Provide crisis support.
- Act in an informed communicative and responsive way to address tenancy issues and needs.
- Provide personalized practical and effective one on one support in accordance with case
- Collect and maintain client data in line with DFFH
- Liaise with Department of Health and Humans Services (Housing), Haven and Aboriginal Housing Office or external housing
- Assist in the management of transitional
- Develop network and relationship with local real estate to open opportunities for private accommodation for
- Develop appropriate case plan to assistance homelessness people to transition to permanent accommodation and refer to appropriate services to support client
Key Responsibilities
- Understand and promote the philosophy and need for ACCO and Aboriginal Family Service.

- Work cooperatively to develop local community events g., family days, NAIDOC Week, men’s and women’s health days etc.
- Attend and participate in Family Services Unit staff meetings, general staff
- Represent the organization and/or community in forums outside the agency (e.g., at Court, on panels, on committees ).

Key Selection Criteria
Applicants must possess:
- A proven knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal people and Aboriginal
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of social housing within
- Ideally an understanding or background in tenancy
- Demonstrated understanding of issues impacting on homelessness in Echuca/Moama area including the Supported Accommodation and assistance program.
- Understanding of case management and how to develop case plans for
- Ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people and handle issues in a sensitive
- Sound negotiation skills, which may include advocacy work with external housing agencies or supporting clients in maintaining
- An ability to advocate on behalf of individuals and families externally with a diverse range of stakeholders (government departments, tribunals/courts, other housing
- Good written and verbal communication
- The ability to maintain records and manage time effectively and
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a multi-skilled team.
