Program Scope The Aboriginal Therapeutic Care (ATC) is an intensive therapeutic service for infants, children, young people and families who have suffered trauma, neglect and disrupted attachment. It provides high quality therapeutic services for families, as well as contributing to the service system that provides care, support, and protection for these children.

Key Responsibilities
- To provide assessment, referral, and case management of program participants.
- To engage and actively support young Aboriginal people involved in trauma informed behaviours and ensure appropriate services supports are in place.
- Advocate on behalf of client whenever required.
- Facilitate group activities for identified clients if or as appropriate.
- Conduct ongoing education for staff members and carers where appropriate
- Develop partnerships with relevant services providers.
- Evaluate programs and services by collecting data using qualitative and quantitative methodology.
- Foster a strong team spirit within the organization.
- Participate in general staff, team, and planning meetings.
- Work as a team member in conjunction with Family Services, Health and Administrative staff.
- Participate in ongoing training and development.
- Always ensure the confidentiality of client information.
- Maintain appropriate data and program and client records.
- Prepare reports as directed by Manager at intervals.
- Other duties as directed by Manager or CEO.
- Act, always, in a professional manner in accordance with the policies and practices of the Corporation.
Key Selection Criteria:
Applicants must possess:
- Demonstrated effectiveness in the delivery of culturally appropriate prevention, early intervention, care treatment and recovery initiatives related to the delivery of Aboriginal trauma informed support services.
- Demonstrated understanding of emotional illnesses and the culturally appropriate care and / or treatment of these.
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive in the development and implementation of social and emotional wellbeing policies and programs.
- Demonstrated capacity for best practice in the case management process, including clinical liaison, crisis intervention, follow up care and client advocacy.
- An ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people and handle issues in a sensitive manner.
- An ability to advocate on behalf of individuals and families.
- Familiar with the local health / medical environment.
- Experience in co–facilitating groups.
- The ability to maintain records and manage time effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a multi-skilled team.
- Work with discretion and observe confidentiality and privacy provisions.
- Sound computer skills.
- Current driver’s license.
- Current Victorian Working with Children Check
- Police Check
Minimum Qualification:
Allied Health Professional, either:
- Recognised NBV/NBNSW as Registered Nurse Division 1 (with mental health qualifications) or
- Qualified Mental Health Social Worker; or
- Psychologist, or
- Qualified mental health occupational therapist or
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait trauma practitioner or
- Recognised training, demonstrated experience and skills in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, or other Focussed Psychological Strategies and
- Professional registration to practise as applicable (with appropriate state authority)

Qualifications and other Requirements
- A tertiary qualification in Psychology, Social Work, or related discipline and or
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience conducting mental health clinical work with children, young people, and families.
- Staff must hold a valid WWCC, current drivers’ licence always and undergo a Criminal Records Check prior to employment. Subsequently, staff must report any criminal charges or court appearances.
Please note: The scope of this position does not require the incumbent to practice as a registered psychologist or a registered occupational therapist and, as such, discipline specific registration is not a requirement. If the incumbent wishes to maintain registration it is at the incumbent’s discretion and will not impact on the scope of this role.
