KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, plan and implement an appropriate developmental and interest based cultural program for children in their care.
- Develop, record and maintain specific objectives for individual children based on the regular written observation across all aspect of each child’s development and share this information with parents, early intervention and specialist services.
- Develop and implement daily care routines.
- Build responsive relationships with families and specialist services to enable sharing of children’s learning and development and early interventions as required.
- Support, Mentor and Supervise other educators in their room and student placements.
- Work collaboratively with other staff and management of the Centre to create a culturally safe environment where families and children feel supported and safe.
- Review and plan the overall program in consultation with the Early Years Manager, Educational Leader, Staff and Parents including general aspects such as bush visits, special events, elder’s visits, excursions, and health service visits.
- Work collaboratively with Koori Preschool Assistant and Best Start Facilitator to support transition from Berrimba to Kinder & School
- Participate in evacuation procedures and fire drills, creation of evacuation procedures for individual room and centre with OHS representative and Management.
- Act as necessary to ensure the health and safety of children attending the Centre and while on approved activities outside of the service.
- Ensure all relevant regulations and the Centre’s policies and procedures are adhered to.
- Work in with management and inclusion support to apply for additional educators funding as required according to individual children’s needs.
- Be aware of Mandatory Reporting obligations and participation in training
- Organise Kindergarten excursions/outings and completing risk assessment and excursion notices prior to visits.
Parent Relationships:
- Actively encourage parent input into program planning and involvement in program activities as appropriate.
- Provide regular information on program, service operation and child development for parents in the form of newsletters, posters, and notices.
- Provide feedback to parents on their child/ren’s progress and alert them to any development issues/challenges.
People Management:
- Supervise unqualified workers caring for the group of children under his/her care.
- Actively encourage the continuing development of staff involved in developing and delivering the program.
- Provide formal feedback on staff performance as part of the annual performance appraisal process.
Program Reporting:
- Provide regular reports (each term) to the Early Years Manager on the implementation and review of the program.
- Complete within required timelines all relevant program related reports and data collections required by funding bodies.
- Document and report on any maintenance issues related to equipment and materials used within the program.
Berrimba Planning Processes:
- Participate in the overall development and implementation of the strategic and business plans of the Centre.
- Ensure the kindergarten program is developed and implemented in ways that support the long range goals, objectives, plans and policies, and the vision of the Centre.
- Participate in the Centre’s regular staff meetings and professional development workshops.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Demonstrated understanding and commitment to Aboriginal Culture.
- Demonstrated ability to work with Aboriginal organizations and communities.
- A sound understanding and knowledge of Early Childhood Development.
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
- Victorian Institute of Teaching Registration
- Experience working in a Child Care Program.
- An appropriate First Aid Training certificate which complies with the requirements of the Children’s Services regulations 1998.
- Well-developed program development and implementation skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively with parents and professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and always remain impartial.
- Self-motivated.
- Ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
- A current Driver’s license and a willingness to travel.
- A current satisfactory Police Check.
- A current Working with Children’s Check
IN ADDITION IT IS EXPECTED THAT THE INCUMBENT WILL
- Seek opportunities for personal and professional development which will add to Berrimba’s overall capabilities.
- Undertake travel as required.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor of Early Childhood Education
- Victorian Institute of Teaching Registration
- Food Safety Supervisor Certificate
- Safe Food Handling Certificate
- Relevant experience in the food preparation industry
- Working With Children’s Check
- Current Criminal Records Check
