Family Services Team Leader

  • Position Scope:

    The Family Services Team Leader will coordinate the day-to-day running of Family Services, Family Violence and Housing programs. The programs aim to enhance child and family well-being and prevent child abuse and neglect. The programs support families through major transitions and times of crisis by providing responsive and culturally sensitive services. The Team Leader ensures that service delivery is compliant with relevant standards and legislative requirements and is based on culturally informed Best Interest Practices. A key requirement of the role is also to promote effective collaboration with Njernda programs, as well as other DHHS and relevant agencies.

Key Responsibilities


Delivery of Programs

  • Ensure Aboriginal culture is embedded throughout all aspects of the programs to ensure cultural safety in all activities.
  • Ensure staff are facilitating timely interventions of case work practices within the three programs- Family Services, Family Violence and Housing.
  • Ensuring risk assessments and family service plans are completed in partnership with children and families.
  • Monitor and review client progress for each family.

Program Management

  • Day-to-day management of family services programs, including Housing and Family Violence.
  • Management of the referral process, case allocation, including monitoring records of all referrals received.
  • Liaise with and develop positive relationships with DHHS and other Community Service Organisations.
  • Monitor program budgets, allocated funds and ensure financial compliance within budget parameters.

Leadership and Staff Management

  • Assist with recruitment and orientation of new staff/students and complete HR requirements such as timesheets, leave applications etc.
  • Ensure staff comply with the electronic data systems recording for programs such as IRIS and SHIP.
  • Provision of formal and informal supervision and support to family services caseworkers as well as annual staff appraisals.
  • Facilitate regular team meetings with the family services team.

Reporting and Compliance

  • Completion of internal/external reporting requirements as per KPI funded agreements.
  • Initiate quality activities within your department to demonstrate a genuine commitment to continuous improvement across Njernda.
  • Actively participate in quality activity reports within your division ensuring that a quality culture of Do, Check and Act is evident in your work conduct.

Corporate Responsibilities

  • Promote compliance with relevant legislation and Njernda policies.
  • Assist with and support any internal or external audit processes.

Key Selection Criteria


Applicants must possess:

  • Demonstrated experience in program development including monitoring, reviewing, evaluating and maintenance of standards.
  • Communication (written and verbal) and Interpersonal skills of a high standard.
  • A sound knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture and values, as well as the ability to effectively communicate with Aboriginal people.
  • Experience within working with families and communities that have experienced trauma, family violence and/or homelessness.
  • Understanding of family functioning and social issues affecting families. Including a sound knowledge of the complexities involved in the provision of intensive family support to parents and children including those involved with child protection.
  • An excellent understanding of the principles and practises of case work and case management.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop stakeholder relationships and to influence in strategic policy development.
  • Staff management – demonstrated ability to supervise and support staff.
  • Respect cultural diversity and take action to provide services that are inclusive of Aboriginal people and engage in learning about other cultures to better establish relationships and improve services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a multi-skilled team.
  • Strong computer skills.

 

Qualifications and Experience


  • Diploma of Community Services
