Key Accountabilities
- Health Promotion
Work to meet the objectives and key deliverables as set out in Njernda Aboriginal Corporation’s health plan.
- Partnerships and Collaboration
Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders
- Program Development
Support and develop initiatives that strengthens Njernda Aboriginal Cooperation to achieve health outcomes for the betterment of the community
- General Duties
Ensure reporting compliance to internal and external stakeholders
Key Responsibilities
1. Health Promotion
- Develop and implement initiatives to support the promotion and use of Community Health Checks (MBS 715)
- Develop and implement initiatives to support vaccination programs, such as childhood immunisation, COVID-19 and Influenza
- Develop and support systems and health promotion activities in the following areas:
- Smoking cessation
- Cancer prevention and screening
- Sexual health
- Oral health
- Eye health
- Support other activities that align with Working Together for Health priority areas
2. Partnerships and Collaboration
- Participate in LMARG committee meetings and provide monthly reports to the Regional Coordinator
- Engage and consult with the Regional Health Promotion Coordinator to map current preventative health systems and approaches, analyse gaps and determine priority areas for Njernda
- Develop and deliver Njernda’s component of the Working Together for Health Promotion Plan
- Participation in VACCHO Advisory Group initiatives where aligned with WTFH priority issues
- Work in a productive and positive manner with a diversity of internal and external stakeholders and partners
- Participate in Healthy Communities Network meetings
- Participate in other relevant networks as directed e.g., DHHS Population Health Network, CERSH sexual health network meetings
3. Program Development
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement strategies
- Use clinical data to establish activities and intervention strategies
- Develop and deliver Njernda’s Working Together for Health Plan
4. General Duties
- Submit regular reports (written and verbal) to the WTFH Regional Coordinator
- Submit reports to CEO for LMARG and other stakeholders / funding bodies as required
- Attend all staff and unit meetings
Key Selection Criteria
Skills and Competencies
- Health promotion: Demonstrated knowledge of the health promotion principles, practices and key frameworks, knowledge of the determinants of health and an understanding of evidence-based practice.
- Partnerships and Collaboration: Works collaboratively with other Aboriginal and mainstream organisations in formal and informal partnerships to achieve mutually agreed client /community outcomes.
- Program Development: Contributes to program development and implements project plans.
- Written and Verbal Communication: Prepares accurate documents and reports that meet audience needs. Communicates clear, culturally appropriate, respectful and consistent messages to staff, clients and community members.
- Knowledge of Aboriginal Community: Builds knowledge of client/community issues and requirements to improve practice.
- Achieving Results: Understands roles and responsibilities, has an ability to fulfil work requirements and achieves program/performance targets.
- Time Management: Manages time and uses tools effectively to assist with planning and organising, even when faced with changing priorities.
- Initiative: Within a cultural context takes initiative and supports others to look for innovative ways to improve practice and service delivery.
- Technology: uses technology and software applications effectively in relation to task requirements.
Desirable
- Experience in data analysis interpretation, and reporting
- Experience in using clinical software – Communicare
- Experience in evaluation and ‘plan do study’ act cycles.
Education, Training and/or Competencies:
- A tertiary qualification / or relevant professional experience in the areas of: Health Promotion, Population Health, Health Science, Public Health, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health or related field.
Conditions of Employment:
- Must pass Criminal Police Records Check.
- Must pass Working with Children’s Check.
- Must hold current Driver’s Licence.
- This position will require some travel.
