The Orange Door Team will bring together specialist workforces and practices to create an integrated Orange Door team and a consolidated intake point in each area Orange Door area to create a new way of support for:
- • women, children, young people, and families experiencing family violence
- • perpetrators of family violence
- • families in need of support with the care, development, and well-being of children.
This will be achieved by drawing on the expertise of CSOs and ACCOS and bringing together workers from organisations that currently:
- • receive police referrals for women who are victims of family violence
- • receive police referrals for perpetrators of family violence (known as ‘Enhanced Intake Services’)
- • receive child wellbeing referrals
- • provide the Child FIRST service
- • deliver other relevant services as appropriate, such as those delivered by Aboriginal services.
The Orange Door Team will include a mix of staff employed by FSV and staff employed by CSOs, Aboriginal services and DHHS. The Aboriginal Hub Practitioner will be part of two teams – The Orange Door Team and the Njernda Family Services Team.

The Orange Door will deliver a fundamental change to the way we work with women, children, families, and men.The role of The Orange Door is to provide:
- • a more visible contact point so that people know where to go for specialist support.
- • help for people to identify family violence and child and family safety and wellbeing issues.
- • advice based on contemporary risk assessment tools and guidance and best available information.
- • specialist support and tailored advice for victims, families and children, and perpetrators
- • a strong focus on perpetrator accountability
- • connection and coordination of access to support
- • an approach across the spectrum of prevention, early intervention, and response
- • a system-wide view of service capacity, client experience and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
Primary Responsibilities
- -Providing culturally safe and responsive support to Aboriginal children, women, and men by:
- a) Co-working and providing daily specialist practice support for the Hubs staff
- b) Managing a caseload of complex and/or sensitive cases
- c) Operating with autonomy and accountability in supporting Aboriginal children, women, and men.
- -Assist other senior Aboriginal staff with developing Hub Staff in working with Aboriginal children, women, and men:
- a) Building capability of Hub practitioners to deliver culturally competent responses to Aboriginal children, women, and men, informed by cultural expertise, client experience and in line with the relevant practice frameworks and legislation
- b) Providing practitioners with relevant information and access to systems to support safe and effective responses to Aboriginal children and families as part of an integrated practice approach
- c) Modelling integrated practice approaches and behaviours integral to ethical clinical practice working with Aboriginal children and families
- d) Sharing practice knowledge on Aboriginal approaches to holistic healing and whole of family practices
- -Building the cultural safety of the Hub and supporting choice and self-determination of Aboriginal people.
- -Liaising with organisations and services within the Hub network to improve direct service issues for Aboriginal people accessing services through the Hub.
- -Keep accurate and complete records of your work activities in accordance with legislative requirements and the Victoria Government’s, information security and privacy policies and requirements.
- -Take reasonable care for your own health and safety and for that of others in the workplace by working in accordance with legislative requirements and occupational health and safety (OHS) policies and procedures.
- -Other duties as directed by the Practice Leader and consistent with the overall goals and responsibilities of this position.
Administration and Compliance

Preferred / Desired / Mandatory Education, Training and/or Competencies.
- -A recognised Social Work Degree or Community Services qualification, and/or extensive relevant work experience in family violence sector.
- -All family violence workers are required to undertake a mandatory Graduate Certificate in Family Violence within 12 months of employment.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
- -Must identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Person
- -Strong analytical, organisational, and coordinating skills. Effectiveness in developing tasks and managing resources to achieve targets within set timeframes.
- -Ability to solve problems based on operational knowledge and experience and follow a continuous improvement process in line with policy, procedure and therapeutic approaches and frameworks.
- -Excellent Communication skills, to consult and liaise effectively with a broad range of people, Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal, at all levels, to achieve broad project objectives and goals.
- -Experience in family violence risk assessment and safety planning for women and children consistent with the MARAM framework.
- -Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community, advocating for culturally safe practice, preferably in the context of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families experiencing Family Violence.
- -An ability to manage working as a Njernda staff member but to also work as a worker in the Orange Door
- -Remains motivated and productive, using initiative when working autonomously.
- -Strong computer skills, ability to use a range of software and IT based reporting systems.

Conditions of employment
- -This is an ongoing, full-time position comprising 37.5 hours per week. To perform the duties of this position effectively you may be required to work additional hours or vary your working times, on any day of the week, as appropriate and necessary from time to time. There is no paid overtime, however, time in lieu arrangements will be negotiated as required.
- -The position is currently based at 482 High Street, subject to change, based on strategic and operational needs of the organisation and program. At times be based at Njernda Family services.
- -Terms and conditions of employment will be included in an Employment Contract.
- -The successful applicant will be required to undergo satisfactory pre-employment checks, including providing at least three (3) professional referees, completion of a medical declaration, Police Records Check, Working with Children Check, -Victorian Driver’s Licence, and proof of identify and qualifications.
- -The successful applicant must have and continue to hold a full Victorian Driver’s Licence.
- -The successful applicant will be required to disclosure any pre-existing injury/injuries and/or medical condition/s, which could be aggravated by the type of employment they are applying for.
