Position Scope To oversee the coordination of all staff, families, and activities within Yakapna Centre.

The management and support of staff resources

  • Facilitate the day-to-day running & provision of high-quality service delivery at Yakapna.
  • To promote a positive culture of professional supervision within the Centre and across the program.
  • The coordinator must ensure all staff have written professional development plans in place for all regular staff and review the progress of these plans in an ongoing manner.

 

  • Liaise with the Youth & Residential Services Manager regarding any significant practice issues or potential disciplinary matters relating to centre staff.
  • Assist with recruitment and orientation as required.
  • Support staff appropriately following critical incidents.
  • To supervise Yakapna centre staff effectively and efficiently, through the provision of clear work plans, and staff meetings.
  • To manage Yakapna centre budget in conjunction with the Finance Manager.
  • To develop and distribute staff rosters on a Weekly basis.
  • To provide monthly written reports to the Manager, on all Yakapna centre activities and including statistical data, and in line with Management Reporting Calendar.
  • To assist with policy development as required.
  • To support and participate in Yakapna accreditation, evaluation and review processes.

 

Ensure families case plan goals and objectives are met

  • To coordinate and negotiate all Yakapna centre family admissions and exits including the completion of all relevant documentation.
  • To oversee and participate in the development of family case plans, within 24 hours of family admission to Yakapna centre.
  • To arrange and monitor all aboriginal and non-aboriginal services to be provided to families / parent(s) involved in the healing journey.
  • Attend and convene case plan meetings as required.
  • Proactively liaise with the child protection, ACSASS and other services to ensure that case plans, behavior management plans or safety plans are in place for all families within the centre.
  • Liaise, participate and convene meetings with the centre reference group and stakeholders individually to ensure positive outcomes for families leaving the centre, ie. The Office of Housing.
  • Developing the centre and environment to facilitate the case plan goals, daily living, recreational and other skills of the families.

 

Financial and reporting responsibilities.

  • Rosters: ensuring roster coverage is consistent with the budget, client support needs and industrial awards.
  • Critical Incidents: Compliance with reporting processes including CIMS, and ensuring the affected staff and clients are offered, have access to formal debriefing assistance.
  • Record keeping & communication processes: Accurate, proper and up-to-date book entries and client files should be maintained.
  • Accountability for the expenditure and management of household spending and petty cash floats.

 

Professional Development

Position requirements

 

This positon will be responsible for the operational and maintenance aspects of the Centre to which they are assigned. The person will have primary responsibility for the duty of care to residents. They will have responsibility for a team of staff and will promote reciprocal links to other staff in the agency, as well as those who are part of the service network for the residents.

 

The position will have contracted responsibilities under the Children & Young Persons Act and by virtue of the Department of Human Services case plans. The Coordinator will be responsible for the compliance of staff with the agency policy and procedures, and those required by the funding body (Department of Human Services).

 

The Coordinator shall:

  • Participate in program and service reviews — attend appropriate unit and other meetings.

Key selection criteria

  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary, multifunctional, energetic and dynamic environment.
  • Ability to work in a complex, crisis driven, high pressured environment.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of aboriginal culture, social and economic issues, and local family networks.
  • Experience in budgeting and financial control.
  • Ability to provide written reports and statistical data reporting.
  • Knowledge of local aboriginal and mainstream services.
  • Ability to work with children and families; especially those with complex needs, ie. substance abuse, mental health, family violence.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a range of people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Possess a strong commitment to staff development and training.
  • Demonstrated capacity to provide strong leadership.
  • Ability to advocate, mediate and undertake dispute resolution.
  • An understanding of the Child Protection service system.
  • Well-developed computer skills with the ability to operate Microsoft Word and Excel.

 

Qualifications

  • CERT IV or Diploma in Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and out of home care), including a mandatory trauma unit of competency; or
  • a recognised relevant qualification such as a Diploma of Community Services.
  • Significant life experience, with culturally specific expertise as set out in each Selection Criteria and a willingness to undertake further studies will be accepted.
  • First Aid Certificate — or willing to undertake training.

Performance review:

There is a 6-month probationary period with negotiated expectations for all positions within Njernda Corporation, which is formally reviewed.  Njernda CEO conducts this review and all subsequent annual reviews of positions.

Salary and Conditions:

Remuneration will be in accordance with the Social, Community, Home Care, Disability Services Industry Award 2010.

 

Police check/Working with Children check/Drivers check:

All Njernda Corporation staff must pass a police and criminal records check, Working With Children Check & Drivers Licence check prior to starting employment – which may be reviewed during the period of employment.
