    Yinya Mulana means “Light Spirits” in Yorta Yorta language. The support worker is responsible for the day-to-day coordination and management of Njernda’s Yinya Mulana Program. The Yinya Mulana Program uses organised sport, recreational and cultural activities to provide a safe space to engage children, young people and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

-Prepare an annual Work plan for the Program, which aligns with the Njernda Strategic Plan and the Indigenous Family Violence Primary Prevention Framework.
-Build and maintain partnerships that support the Yinya Mulana Program within Njernda and externally with sporting bodies, the Shire of Campaspe, artist facilitators, support services, etc.
-Work with Njernda staff and external agencies to ensure there are referral processes in place, between Yinya Mulana and other services

-Develop and oversee the implementation of the annual program of sporting, recreational and cultural activities for children and young people.
-Secure and contract external artists, ambassadors, and experts to lead events and activities.
-With the guidance from the Youth Services Manager, oversee the budget and cost individual activities/events.
-Promote Yinya Mulana and encourage children, young people, and families to participate in the Program.
-Manage enquiries, process referrals, and register children, young people and families in the Program.
-Oversee assessments, care planning, referrals, and reviews, including assessments and safety planning for children, young people and families affected by family violence, if appropriate.
-Determine what support and assistance will be provided to children, young people and families/carers participating in the Program.
-Ensure processes are in place to support parent, carer, and family engagement in the Program.
-Implement a case management approach as the Key Worker, to ensure that sporting and cultural engagement assists in the healing journey of the children, young people, and families in the Program.
-Work with relevant internal/external workers to put in place strategies to engage or re-engage children, young people and families/carers who are disengaging from the Program.
-Encourage and support children, young people and families involved in the Program to participate in community events and activities, such as NAIDOC, Children’s Day, Family Violence Prevention Day, etc.
-Oversee the collection, storage and reporting of Program data.
-Prepare and submit Program reports to DHHS, as per the requirements set out in the Funding Agreement.
-Participate in regular supervision and professional development, including further education and training where required.
-Other duties as directed within the scope of the employee’s skill level and training.

 

Key Selection Criteria

Applicants must possess:
-An understanding of Aboriginal culture and a commitment to the values of the Njernda Aboriginal Corporation.
-An understanding of how to create a safe space to engage children, young people and families in organised sport, recreation, and cultural activities.
-Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
-Advanced computer skills.
-Understanding of family violence, trauma and how sporting and cultural engagement can promote healing and resilience.
-A current Victorian driver’s license.
-Good liaison and communication skills with the Aboriginal community and the wider community.
