Position description
Job description
Cultural authority. System influence. Stronger outcomes for Aboriginal families.
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a culturally confident and experienced Aboriginal Practice Leader (APL) to provide specialist cultural leadership within The Orange Door (Loddon) and Njernda Family Services.
This senior leadership role ensures Aboriginal children, families and communities experiencing family violence, child wellbeing concerns and complex needs receive culturally safe, trauma-informed and self-determined responses. The APL embeds Aboriginal ways of knowing, being and doing across The Orange Door workforce and strengthens cultural governance, accountability and system reform.
Working across both mainstream and Aboriginal community-controlled environments, you will provide expert secondary consultation on complex and high-risk cases, mentor practitioners, and influence integrated service systems to reduce systemic harm and barriers for Aboriginal families.
Please note, this is an identified position open only to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants.
About the role
In this role, you will:
- Lead culturally safe, integrated practice for Aboriginal children and families
- Provide expert secondary consultation on complex and high-risk cases
- Embed Aboriginal cultural frameworks across The Orange Door workforce
- Mentor practitioners and strengthen culturally responsive capability
- Promote Aboriginal voice, choice and self-determination in service pathways
- Provide strategic advice on culturally responsive risk and reform initiatives
- Strengthen partnerships with Aboriginal organisations and governance groups
- Influence system improvements that reduce systemic harm
About you
You are a culturally grounded and confident leader who:
- Has strong knowledge of Aboriginal culture, community aspirations and self-determination principles
- Brings experience in family violence, child and family services and/or perpetrator interventions
- Demonstrates cultural authority and the ability to influence practice across multidisciplinary teams
- Has experience providing specialist practice advice and secondary consultation
- Can confidently navigate legislative and integrated service frameworks
- Leads with integrity, accountability and a commitment to system reform
Why join Njernda?
