Job description

Support strong beginnings for Aboriginal babies by walking alongside families during pregnancy and early parenthood.

The Aboriginal Unborn Boori Worker provides culturally safe, holistic support to expectant Aboriginal mothers and families, strengthening early developmental outcomes for children from pregnancy through to 12 months of age. Grounded in Aboriginal values, kinship systems and community-led practice, this role focuses on building trust, promoting healing, and supporting families to feel confident, connected and supported during their parenting journey.

Working closely with families, community, and partner services, this role plays a vital part in ensuring unborn babies are supported with care, culture and connection from the very beginning.

About the role

  • Provide intensive, strengths-based case management and outreach support to expectant mothers
  • Support families through pregnancy, birth and early parenting using trauma-informed, culturally safe approaches
  • Advocate for families and work alongside services to ensure cultural needs are respected in service delivery
  • Connect families to prevention, early intervention and community supports within Njernda and beyond
  • Build strong, trusting relationships that promote healing, empowerment and cultural identity

About you

  • You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
  • Experience and/or qualifications in community services, social work, early childhood or a related field
  • Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship, parenting practices and community connection
  • Ability to engage families using relational, trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches
  • Commitment to supporting strong, healthy beginnings for Aboriginal children and families
