Supporting healing, reconnection and cultural strength for Stolen Generations and their families.


Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a compassionate and culturally strong Bringing Them Home (BTH) Worker to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people on their healing journeys.


This important role focuses on strengthening social and emotional wellbeing, with priority support for members of the Stolen Generations and their families. Through trauma-informed counselling, healing programs and community engagement, you will help individuals reconnect to culture, Country, identity and community.


Working within the Youth and Wellbeing team, you will provide brief interventions, facilitate group healing activities, support family tracing and reunification processes, and coordinate commemorative events such as National Sorry Day and Apology Day.


This is a meaningful opportunity to walk alongside community members with empathy, cultural respect and professional integrity — supporting truth-telling, healing and empowerment.

About the role

  • Deliver culturally safe, trauma-informed individual support and short-term counselling
  • Prioritise service delivery to members of the Stolen Generations
  • Facilitate healing groups, workshops and community activities
  • Support family tracing, research and reunification pathways
  • Coordinate commemorative and awareness events
  • Build strong referral pathways with mental health and wellbeing services 
  • Advocate for clients and support holistic wellbeing outcomes 
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold child-safe and culturally safe standards

About you

We are seeking someone who:

  • Holds a Diploma or higher qualification in Community Services, Counselling, AOD or related field
  • Has strong knowledge of the history and impacts of forced removals
  • Demonstrates trauma-informed case management and counselling skills
  • Understands culturally safe Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander–centred practice
  • Can work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
  • Brings empathy, professionalism and strong communication skills
