Position description
Job description
Walk alongside families on their healing journey.
Be part of a unique and holistic program at the Yakapna Centre and contribute to real, lasting change in the Njernda community.
This role provides culturally safe, 24/7 residential and educative support to help families strengthen connections, develop new skills, and create safe, nurturing environments for children. Yakapna’s objective is to provide families with intensive support and culturally sensitive therapeutic practices that can prevent the need for children to be placed away from home because of safety concerns. We also work to enable the safe return of children to the care of their family following placement in the out-of-home care system.
Please note, this is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander identified position.
About the role
In this role you will:
- Provide direct support to parents, children, and families as they participate in the Yakapna healing program
- Assist families with daily living while encouraging skills, independence, and resilience
- Work alongside therapeutic and cultural practitioners to deliver a holistic model of care
- Support family participation in cultural, community, and educational activities
- Maintain records, contribute to care planning, and collaborate with the Yakapna team to ensure safe, effective practice
About you
- Experience in family support, residential, or community services (or willingness to learn)
- Strong interpersonal skills with a culturally sensitive, family-focused approach
- Ability to support families experiencing trauma while maintaining boundaries and professionalism
- Commitment to the “Best Interests” of Aboriginal children and families, keeping kids connected to culture and community
- Flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, and overnight, as part of a 24/7 service
- Apply now to walk alongside families on their healing journey and contribute to real, lasting change in the Njernda community.
