Our Commitment to Child Safety
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is committed to creating and maintaining a child safe environment where all children have the right to be children and live free of abuse and neglect, so they can grow, learn and develop.
We have a zero-tolerance of child abuse and take our duty of care seriously in acting the in the best interest of the child.
Everyone within Njernda is responsible for embedding in practice a culture of child safety and preventing child abuse.
At Njernda we:
- Protect all children and their identity from diverse backgrounds from child abuse.
- Ensure all staff are across their duty of care regarding child safe practices.
- Ensure the equality of all children with diverse needs.
- Ensure our children’s voices are heard, empowering them to be part of the decision affecting them.
- Encourage and support our Mob to participate in the decisions impacting on our children.
- Ensure our physical and online environments promote safety and wellbeing, while minimising the opportunity for harm to children and young people.
- Provide regular training to all staff and volunteers to ensure child safe standards are complied with.
- Have a complaint process that is child-centred and focussed, where any disclosure will be treated in a culturally safe manner.
- Have a governance structure that ensures we are a child safe organisation. This is reflected in all aspects of leadership, policies and procedures, and our Code of Conduct.
- Review all policies and procedures regularly to ensure they are compliant with child safe standards.
- Monitor and review the child safe standards on a regular basis.
