Be the first point of support for individuals and families seeking safety, stability and connection
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a Family Safety Intake Worker to play a vital frontline role within the Family Safety Unit.
This position is the first point of contact for community members accessing support, providing a culturally safe, trauma-informed intake service for Aboriginal individuals and families experiencing family violence, housing instability, homelessness, or requiring therapeutic support.
Working closely with community members and internal programs, the role focuses on initial engagement, assessment and triage—ensuring people are connected to the right supports at the right time..
You will help identify risk, respond to immediate needs, and support coordinated service delivery across Njernda’s Family Safety, Housing and Wellbeing teams.
About the role
- Act as the first point of contact for walk-ins, referrals and community enquiries
- Conduct intake assessments and identify risks, needs and support pathways
- Provide culturally safe information, advice and referrals to appropriate services
- Support crisis response and escalate urgent matters where required
- Maintain accurate client records and contribute to coordinated service delivery
About you
You are a compassionate and organised professional who understands the importance of culturally safe, respectful engagement with Aboriginal individuals and families. You are confident managing competing priorities and can respond calmly in complex or sensitive situations.
You will bring:
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture and community
- Experience in intake, assessment, or community services (family services, housing or similar)
- Ability to assess needs, identify risks and prioritise urgent matters
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong organisation, time management and record-keeping skills
