Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking an Intensive Support Practitioner to work closely with Aboriginal children, young people and families experiencing complex challenges.
This role plays a key part in supporting family safety, stability and wellbeing, with a strong focus on keeping children safely at home wherever possible.
Working in partnership with families, the practitioner delivers intensive, culturally responsive and trauma-informed casework that recognises family strengths, cultural identity and lived experience. The role supports families to build capacity, navigate systems and access the right supports at the right time.
You will work collaboratively with the Family Services team, other Njernda programs and external agencies to provide coordinated, wrap-around support. Maintaining and strengthening connection to culture, family, kinship and community is central to this role, with culture recognised as a key protective factor for children and young people.
About the role
- Deliver intensive, strengths-based and culturally safe support to Aboriginal families
- Work alongside families involved with, or at risk of, child protection involvement
- Support family safety planning, goal setting and practical skill development
- Advocate for families within statutory and mainstream service systems
- Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to coordinate wrap-around supports
About you
- You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Experience or qualifications in family services, community services, youth work or a related field
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship systems and intergenerational trauma
- Ability to engage families with empathy, respect and cultural safety
- Commitment to keeping Aboriginal children safe, supported and connected to family and culture
