Supporting children to grow up safe, strong and connected to culture
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a Keeping Children Safe in Culture Worker to support Aboriginal children and families involved with, or at risk of involvement with, child protection and family services. This role plays a vital part in helping keep children safe while strengthening cultural identity, family connection and community support.
Working closely with children, parents, carers, kinship networks and partner agencies, the role focuses on early intervention, advocacy and culturally safe casework to support families to stay together wherever possible, and to ensure children remain connected to culture, Country and community.
About the role
In this role, you will:
- Provide culturally safe, strengths-based support to Aboriginal children and families
- Work alongside families involved with child protection to support safety, stability and reunification
- Advocate for children’s cultural needs within statutory and mainstream systems
- Support cultural connection, identity and kinship relationships for children and young people
- Build strong partnerships with Child Protection, ACCOs and community services
About you
- You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Experience or qualifications in community services, family support, youth work or a related field
- Strong understanding of Aboriginal culture, kinship systems and the impacts of trauma
- Ability to engage families with empathy, respect and cultural sensitivity
- Commitment to keeping Aboriginal children safe, strong and connected to culture
