Position description
Job description
Supporting our youngest children to grow strong in culture, family and community.
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a passionate and culturally strong Koorie Supported Playgroups Facilitator to lead the Yarka Yaka Daya program.
This role plays a vital part in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children aged 0–5 years and their families through culturally safe, play-based learning. You will create a welcoming environment where families feel connected, supported and empowered — strengthening early childhood development, positive parenting, and strong cultural identity.
Working closely with families, community members and local services, you will help ensure children are developmentally supported and ready to transition successfully into early learning and school environments.
This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact in the early years of children’s lives, while strengthening family confidence and community connection.
Please note, this is an identified position, open to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander applicants only.
About the role
In this role, you will:
- Plan and deliver engaging, culturally embedded playgroup sessions
- Create a safe, inclusive and culturally respectful environment for families
- Support children’s wellbeing and development through play-based learning
- Strengthen parenting confidence and positive family connections
- Embed Aboriginal culture, language and traditions into program activities
- Build strong partnerships with local services and community stakeholders
- Monitor attendance, maintain records and contribute to program reporting
- Participate in community events and activities that strengthen family outcomes
About you
We are seeking someone who:
- Has (or is working towards) a relevant Early Childhood qualification or Diploma in Community Services
- Understands Aboriginal culture and the importance of culturally safe practice
- Has experience in early childhood settings or community-based family programs
- Can work collaboratively with families, educators and support services
- Brings warmth, initiative, creativity and strong communication skills
Work with us!
At Njernda, we are committed to strengthening families through culturally grounded, community-led services. You will join a supportive team that values Respect, Accountability, Resilience, Advocacy and Cultural Sensitivity.
This role offers the opportunity to work directly with families in the early years — building strong foundations that last a lifetime.
