Lead culturally informed child protection practice. Strengthen outcomes for Aboriginal children and families.


Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a highly experienced and culturally strong Senior ACSASS Worker to provide expert advice, leadership and consultation to Child Protection in matters involving Aboriginal children and young people.


This is a pivotal senior role within our Families, Healing and Support Services team. You will guide complex decision-making, influence statutory practice, and ensure the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle and cultural rights of children are upheld at every stage of intervention.


Beyond direct case consultation, this role provides professional supervision, cultural mentoring and practice leadership to ACSASS staff, helping build a strong, culturally informed and high-performing team.


This is an opportunity for an experienced practitioner who wants to shape systems, elevate cultural authority in child protection, and create lasting impact for Aboriginal children, families and communities.

About the role

  • Provide expert cultural advice to Child Protection on significant decisions affecting
  • Aboriginal children and young people
  • Contribute to Best Interests planning, protective planning and Aboriginal Family
  • Decision Making processes
  • Support culturally informed risk assessment, safety planning and placement decisions
  • Advocate for family, kinship and community involvement in child protection matters
  • Provide after-hours consultation on urgent protective decisions
  • Mentor, supervise and support ACSASS staff to strengthen culturally safe practice
  • Monitor case complexity, practice quality and documentation standards
  • Promote culturally strong, strengths-based approaches to child and family wellbeing

About you

We are seeking a confident and experienced practitioner with:

  • Strong knowledge of Aboriginal communities, cultural authority and local service systems
  • Deep understanding of child protection legislation and the Aboriginal Child Placement Principle
  • Experience in complex case consultation and statutory interface work
  • Demonstrated leadership capability, including supervision and coaching of staff
  • The ability to influence decision-making while maintaining cultural integrity and professional boundaries
