Key Responsibilities
- To provide assessment, referral and case management of program participants.
- To engage and actively support Aboriginal people involved in high risk behaviours that may result in risk of mental illness and significant psycho social distress.
- Advocate on behalf of client whenever required.
- Facilitate group activities for identified clients if or as appropriate.
- Conduct ongoing education for staff members.
- Develop partnerships with other mental health providers.
- Evaluate programs and services by collecting data using qualitative and quantitative methodology.
- Foster a strong team spirit within the organization.
- Participate in general staff, team and planning meetings.
- Work as a team member.
- Represent the organization at conferences and public speaking engagements if appropriate.
- Represent the organization and/or community in forums outside the agency (e.g. on panels, on Committees etc.) if appropriate.
- Participate in ongoing training and development.
- Always ensure the confidentiality of client information.
- Maintain appropriate data and program and client records.
- Prepare reports as directed by Medical Manager at intervals.
- Other duties as directed.
- Act, at all times, in a professional manner in accordance with the policies and practices of the Corporation.
Key Selection Criteria
Applicants must possess:
- Demonstrated effectiveness in the delivery of culturally appropriate prevention, early intervention, care treatment and recovery initiatives related to the delivery of Aboriginal mental health support services.
- Demonstrated understanding of drug and alcohol issues and the culturally appropriate care and or treatment of these.
- Demonstrated ability to be proactive in the development and implementation of mental wellbeing policies and programs through knowledge about the concept of community-controlled healthcare and holistic health care practices in Aboriginal communities.
- Demonstrated capacity for best practice in the case management process, including clinical liaison, crisis intervention, follow up care and client advocacy.
- An ability to communicate effectively with Aboriginal people and handle issues in a sensitive manner.
- An ability to advocate on behalf of individuals and families.
- Familiar with the primary mental health care environment.
- Familiar with the local health / medical environment.
- Experience in co-facilitating groups.
- The ability to maintain records and manage time effectively and efficiently.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively as part of a multi-skilled team.
- Work with discretion and observe confidentiality and privacy provisions.
- Sound computer skills.

Qualifications And Experience
- A current Victorian driver’s license
- Police check and working with children’s check is a requirement of this role
- Qualifications in Alcohol and Other Drugs or related discipline
- Demonstrated experience working with adults and families in the AOD Sector
- Demonstrated experience facilitating groups, meetings and seminars
Other Relevant Information
- The successful applicant will be required to undergo satisfactory pre-employment checks, including providing at least two professional referees, completion of a medical declaration, Police Records Check, Working With Children Check, Victorian Driver’s License, and proof of identify and qualifications
