Aboriginal Health Worker Traineeships allow Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people that have a keen interest in developing a Healthcare career to enrol and complete a Primary Healthcare course/certificate. Qualifying as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker, will enable you to develop both clinical skills and the ability to respond to the social and cultural needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander patients whilst working in a correctional environment.
Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking to employ and support 2 x Aboriginal Health Worker Trainees. The opportunity allows Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people that have a keen interest in developing a Healthcare career to enrol and complete a Primary Healthcare course/certificate.
Qualifying as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health Worker, will enable you to develop both clinical skills and the ability to respond to the social and cultural needs of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander patients whilst working in a correctional environment.
Njernda will provide and support a working opportunity at the allocated site upon acceptance of enrolment in an appropriate Primary Healthcare course and will offer ongoing support during your traineeship, paid working hours and paid time off to attend your course.
Trainees will function within a multidisciplinary team and are required to refer, communicate, and collaborate with other health professionals to advocate for the cultural and health needs of Aboriginal patients.

During your traineeship you will be under the supervision of an Aboriginal Health Worker or Practitioner. Overall supervision of the Traineeship Program will be provided by the Executive Director of Health and Ageing.
This qualification reflects the role of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people working to provide a range of clinical primary health care services to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander patients.
