Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is building a casual pool of Diploma-qualified Advanced Educators at Berrimba Childcare Centre, to back-fill staff when training, absent or on leave. You'll support the Lead Educator to implement the room's program and routine, while mentoring Certificate III educators and students, and stepping into a leadership role when needed.
About the role
Reporting to the Early Years Manager, you'll work alongside the Assistant Coordinator and the Berrimba Childcare Centre team, stepping in across rooms as needed.
- Independently plan, implement and evaluate an age-appropriate program in line with the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework (VEYLDF)
- Lead and coordinate the daily routine of a room, including supervising Certificate III educators and volunteers
- Ensure the provision and maintenance of a rich, safe and actively supervised learning environment
- Mentor, guide and support less experienced staff and students on placement
- Record, document and interpret children's learning and development to inform program planning
- Build responsive relationships with families and specialist services, communicating sensitively around developmental concerns
- Demonstrate leadership in the absence of the Room Leader or Coordinator
- Work collaboratively with staff and management to create a culturally safe environment for families and children

Selection Criteria - these must be addressed
To be considered, your application must include a separate document responding to each of the numbered criteria below.
- A Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care
- First Aid Certificate, including anaphylaxis and asthma training
- A minimum of 12 months' experience within an education and care setting
- A minimum of 12 months' experience working with children aged 0–5 in long day care or early childhood
- Demonstrated cultural competence and ability to work in a culturally safe and respectful manner with Aboriginal children, families and communities
- Sound understanding of child development theory and its practical application across all developmental domains
- Ability to lead and coordinate the daily routine of a room, including supervision of Certificate III educators and volunteers
- Skill in mentoring, guiding and supporting less experienced staff and students on placement
- Confidence in observing, documenting and interpreting children's learning to inform program planning
- Sound understanding of the National Quality Framework (NQF) and National Quality Standard (NQS)
- Understanding of, and respect for, Aboriginal culture, and demonstrated ability to embed culturally safe and inclusive practice into programming
- Sound understanding of child safety principles, mandatory reporting obligations and related legislative requirements
- Skill in communicating sensitively and professionally with families, including around developmental concerns
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team and demonstrate leadership in the absence of the Room Leader or Coordinator
