Njernda Aboriginal Corporation is seeking a Therapeutic Practitioner to develop, facilitate and evaluate therapeutic group programs for Aboriginal women and children who have experienced, or are at risk of experiencing, family violence. Working within our Family Safety Team, you'll create culturally safe spaces where women and children can process trauma, heal, build connection and strengthen protective factors. This position does not hold a case management portfolio.
This is a designated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander position under a special measure in accordance with section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic).
About the role
- Reporting to the Family Safety Coordinator, you'll work alongside the Family Safety team and external partners to deliver coordinated, evidence-informed and culturally grounded programs. Start times may vary on occasion to meet the needs of community.
- Plan, develop and facilitate therapeutic group programs for Aboriginal women and children affected by family violence.
- Deliver group interventions that promote healing, empowerment, safety, cultural connection and resilience
- Adapt program content for diverse participants, including children at different developmental stages
- Provide secondary consultation and professional support to Family Services staff
- Engage women with internal programs and external services to support holistic wellbeing
- Build collaborative relationships with Aboriginal and mainstream agencies
- Maintain accurate case notes, reports and data entry to meet reporting requirements
Selection Criteria - these must be addressed
To be considered, your application must include a separate document responding to each of the numbered criteria below.
- A Degree or Associate Diploma in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Social Science or a related discipline, plus relevant specialist family violence qualifications and/or lived experience/knowledge
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in the family violence sector, family services or a related community services field
- Demonstrated experience in planning, designing, developing and implementing therapeutic group programs
- Experience working with Aboriginal women, children and communities in a culturally appropriate and trauma-aware manner
- Proven knowledge and understanding of the local Yorta Yorta Aboriginal community, and of Aboriginal culture and issues relating to the needs of Aboriginal families in the area
- Knowledge of family violence systems, legislation and risk management frameworks, including Aboriginal-specific practice responses
- Strong negotiation, advocacy and interpersonal skills, with excellent verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with Aboriginal and mainstream service providers
Desirable: Work experience in an Aboriginal organisation and within the family violence sector or family services in rural Victoria.
